Leukaemia patient gets his wish

KUALA LUMPUR: No words could have described the sense of joy Eric Chong felt when his idol, Hong Kong singer-actor Eason Chan gave him a private performance at his hospital bedside yesterday afternoon.

Bearing witness to the special moment were his family and friends who wept openly.

They knew how much it meant to the 27-year-old KL-native, who was diagnosed with leukaemia seven months ago.

He had been admitted to University Malaya Medical Centre since January.

IDOL SUPPORT: Chan giving Chong words of encouragement yesterday.
Chong had earlier told his parents of his wish to attend Chan’s concert on Aug 26 and how wonderful it would be if he could meet him.

The devoted parents, with the help of the Chinese daily Sin Chew, got in touch with concert organiser Galaxie Production.

During the one-hour meeting, Chan continuously offered Chong words of encouragement. Even as he left, Chan reminded Chong to hang in there and that he had to attend his concert.

“I feel that I have done something good today. And I feel fortunate to have been there to experience the love Eric’s family and friends has for him,” said Chan.
