RM80,000 offer for TAN 1
KUALA TERENGGANU: A whopping RM80,000 is believed to have been offered for the yet-to-be-issued vehicle registration number TAN 1.
The bidder is believed to be a local businessman with the surname Tan.
Another bidder from Kuala Lumpur is also believed to have place a substantial sum for the number TAN 9.
State JPJ director Fauzi Haron said biddings for registration numbers TAN 1 to TAN 999 are available until Oct 1.
We have so far received overwhelming response from bidders, even from those outstation, he told The Star.
Fauzi said 16,552 new vehicles were registered in Terengganu for the first eight months of the year, compared with 14,835 in the same period last year.
We expect the figure to hit about 23,000 by year end, about 2,000 more than in 2005, he said.
Fauzi said 85% of the new registrations were Proton, Perodua and Naza vehicles.
He said the department collected RM30.4mil in revenue from several sources including renewal of licences and compounds for the first half of the year.
We forecast the revenue to hit RM60mil by the end of this year, he said, adding that last year's collection reached RM59mil.
Fauzi added that the department was also offering a 30% discount for all summonses issued by its enforcement unit for a stipulated period.
