Don’t let power cloud your thinking, Najib reminds Umno leaders
By SIMON KHOO
PEKAN: Umno leaders are reminded not to let power and position cloud their thinking, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.
He said power and position were “gifts” from God which would not last forever.
“Let us not be swayed from the principles and objectives of our party's struggles. There must be sincerity in serving the people who have given us the mandate and trust.
“Only then will the people love Umno and Barisan Nasional,” he said during the opening of the Pekan Umno division delegates meeting at the Sultan Ahmad Shah convention hall here yesterday.
Najib, who is also Pekan MP, said as leaders, they must go to the ground and help the people of all races.
“We must learn from the past and previous experiences must serve as reminders.
“I have not forgotten how I obtained a majority of only 241 votes in a previous election before securing a 22,922-vote majority in the last elections,” he said.
Najib said he measured himself not by the years he had been involved in politics but by the maturity and experiences he had gained from it.
