Indonesian arrested for alleged murder of wife
BY FARIK ZOLKEPLI
JOHOR BARU: After accusing his wife of having an affair, a 46 year-old Indonesian construction worker allegedly slashed his wife's stomach and severed her right hand with a sickle at their home in Taman Kempas Indah here on Saturday.
In the 3am incident, the victim Nari, 36, from Madura in Indonesia, died on the spot after she received three slashes on the stomach and one on her right hand.
The victim's 26 year-old stepson was also slightly injured when he was slashed while trying to separate the two.
He then ran out and sought help from the neighbours, who later sent him to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for outpatient treatment for minor cuts on his left hand.
The victim's neighbours alerted the police and confined the suspect in his house by blocking the exits.
Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Roslan Ahmad said initial investigations indicated that the suspect was enraged after his wife requested for a divorce and an argument broke out.
"We believe the suspect accused the victim of fooling around with other men and then slashed her using the sickle.
"We have detained the suspect and investigations are underway," he said adding that the case has been classified under Section 302 for murder.
The victim's body has since been sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for post-mortem.
