“Simon has been following me to many cat shows including those held in Beijing, Shanghai, Bangkok, Philippines and also within Malaysia.
“He’s a grand champion and is currently holding the number one rank in the Asia and Latin America category,” said Lee, 51, a pet shop owner.
Tanawat Watlanapaisal, 34, together with a group of friends, came all the way from Thailand to take part in the cat show. His Persian cat, Cat Party Love Lesson, a five-month-old feline, won the best kitten award.
“I am happy that my cat has won another medal, at least the trip to Malacca wasn’t wasted,” said Tanawat.
He said he spent US$100 (RM360) every month on food, accessories, toys, medicines, brushes and bathing shampoos on his prize-winning kitten.
Cat breeder Wanjahara Nanhussin, 57, said she spends RM1,500 every month on her cats.
Currently, she owns the oriental, maine coon, American curl and the American shorthair breed.
One of her cats, Cheeky, won the Best Household Pet award.

Judges for the show were Jan Rogers from the United States, Yukiko Hayata and Ayumi Ueda from Japan and Allan Raymond from Australia.
Rogers said she had a tough time deciding on the winners as the entries were of high quality.
FSM show manager Adilah Roose said another two more cat shows were being planned.
