Goh Tong’s children keep watch over their mother

GENTING HIGHLANDS: The six children of the late Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong have been keeping a protective watch over their mother Puan Sri Lee Kim Hua as they deal with the prayers, endless stream of visitors and media.

Lee has not emerged from Gohtong Villa since her husband’s coffin was laid in the main hall of their home on Tuesday evening.

Their children, too, have hardly been seen outside the villa as they spend most of their time in front of the coffin accepting condolences from VIPs and other visitors.

The rare times Lim's children stepped out onto the large porch was to make sure the wake was well organised.

Son Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay was once heard telling his staff to take more attentive care in arranging the wreaths.

He wanted the wreaths to be well displayed and the flowers watered constantly, saying: “The wreaths are heartfelt representation from our friends. Take care of them.”

The family, including the grandchildren, have been keeping a dignified silence throughout the past few days.

The wreaths continue to arrive, as do the faxed condolences.

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad sent a fax over to Lee.

It read: “It is with deep regret that my wife, Hasmah and I, received the news of the demise of your beloved husband Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong this morning.

“Please accept our condolences to you and your family over your loss. It is our hope that you will be patient in facing these testing times. May God bless you and your family.”

Guests arriving during lunch and dinner times were served meals, in the Chinese tradition.

The dishes varied daily. There has been sweet sauce chicken, roast duck, butter prawns, stir-fried vegetables, steamed promfret and brown sauce vegetable and meat with black fungus.
