BN reps told to attend forum on election promises
By DEVID RAJAH
PUTRAJAYA: All Barisan Nasional elected representatives and senators have been asked to attend a compulsory forum geared towards fulfilling past election promises.
The one-day forum will bring together members of parliament, assemblymen and senators for the first time under one roof to exchange experiences, views and ways of solving people’s problems.
A total of 711 elected representatives and senators are scheduled to attend the forum organised by the newly formed Forum Wakil Rakyat Malaysia (Fowram).
Fowram, a brainchild of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and based on the European Parliamentary Forum concept, would meet on Oct 21 here.
They are also scheduled to discuss how alternative media -- such as online newspapers; blogs and SMS -- are being used to create a negative perception of government leaders; the effect of globalisation on domestic politics; and the critical views of voters of elected representatives.
Fowram chairman and Umno vice president Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said Abdullah, who is Fowram’s patron, would open the one-day forum.
He said the forum would be an avenue to learn how to face new challenges and to assess if past election pledges had been fulfilled.
“There will be dialogues and workshops among the participants while experts and professionals have been invited to give talks on how we can improve our performance,” he said, adding that the forum would be a closed-door event.
At the end of the forum a resolution and action plan would be formulated.
He said people’s grouses and views would also be raised at the first-ever meeting of Barisan elected representatives and senators totalling 711 people.
“Fowram would strive to make elected representatives adopt the culture of fulfilling their pledges," he said.
