Road closures, checks cause massive jams in Klang Valley
KUALA LUMPUR: Several roads in the city centre were temporarily closed, resulting in massive traffic jams in the Klang Valley yesterday.
Among the roads that were closed to motorists were Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Parlimen, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan Kinabalu, Jalan Istana and Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.
City police chief Deputy Commissioner Datuk Zulhasnan Najib Baharuddin said roadblocks were also set up at the border of the Federal Territory along roads leading into the city.
He said that about 4,000 policemen were deployed throughout the city to ensure the safety of the public.
Checks revealed that among the roads that experienced traffic congestion were the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway, Sprint Expressway, and the stretch between the Sungai Besi toll plaza and the TUDM airstrip.
The police apologised for the inconvenience, saying they had to carry out their duties.
