‘BN has fulfilled its promises’
By STEPHEN THEN
MIRI: The Barisan Nasional administration has fulfilled promises made at the last general election. However, there is much more to be accomplished and the rakyat needs to give Barisan time, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Abdullah said Malaysians could see clear evidences that Barisan had worked hard for the past five years to achieve the intended plans.
“The Government has not forgotten the overwhelming support given to the Barisan at the last elections. We remember the expectations.
“The rakyat can see we have implemented many projects that had brought positive changes to society. One after another, we have fulfilled our promises to build more schools; roads, institutions of higher learning and allocate more funds for the states,” he told about 1,000 people when declaring open a RM107mil flyover project yesterday.
Abdullah added that many of the developments were physical evidences able to be seen by the people.
He said his administration used the money to benefit the rakyat and had not been miserly with public funds.
He is confident the rakyat will judge Barisan accordingly during the coming elections.
“Every year, we want to increase the number of socio-economic projects in every states, build more schools and improve the public infrastructure facilities.
“Only Barisan has the experience and the capability to carry out all these. We want to bring more value to increase the quality of life for people as well as bridge the gap between the rural poor and the urban people,” he said.
Touching on the development corridors, he said the Government wanted to kick start these projects fast because people were “getting impatient.”
He wants Sarawak to launch its corridor before the year-end.
Abdullah said there were certain sections of society levelling criticisms against the Barisan without taking into account what the component party had done.
“It is easy for some people to criticise and blame us for everything without acknowledging the realities on the ground,” he said.
On Sarawak, he said the state had a huge potential but because of its size, it needed greater support from the Federal Government to implement vital development projects.
Later, Abdullah attended a dinner with the various ethnic groups. He also held a close-door meeting with Barisan state leaders.
Today, he will launch two new multi million ringgit projects in Kuching.
