Four-member secretariat to work out ECER details

By SIM LEOI LEOI

PUTRAJAYA: A state secretariat to work out details under the recently-launched East Coast Economic Region masterplan and monitor its progress has been set up in Terengganu.

Its Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the four-member secretariat would meet about once a week, depending on the progress of the project, which was launched recently by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

"In fact, initially, they may have to meet more than once a week as there are a lot of details to be worked out with Petronas, which is the ECER master planner.

"I told the secretariat that I want to be informed of all developments. The secretariat has already been set up but has yet to be officially announced and endorsed by our state exco," he told reporters after delivering the keynote address at the Terengganu review programme at Marriott Hotel here on Saturday.

Idris said some Dubai-based investors had indicated their interest in kickstarting the ECER programme in Terengganu during the launch by Abdullah.

"However, it is still too early to talk about investments as we have yet to receive the full details of the project for Terengganu. So, we still have a lot to discuss with Petronas," he said, adding that the ECER would help the state achieve a growth of 7.5%.
