Typhoon Mitag damages 85 houses in Tawau
KOTA KINABALU: At least 85 houses were damaged in Tawau by the tail of typhoon Mitag passing thorough the Philippines.
Winds peaking at 50kph blew off rooftops, brought down trees and poles, and did other damage at about 10pm Thursday.
Tawau police chief Asst Comm Jaafar Mohd Yusof said yesterday that they had yet to receive any report of injuries or deaths connected to the strong winds.
“So far, there has only been reports of damage to private and public property,” he said.

Tawau Welfare officer Asnah Mohd Kassim said counters had been opened in Kampung Pasir Putih, Titingan, Tanjung Batu Laut, Tanjung Batu Tengah and several other locations.
Sabah Meteorological Department director Tan Chen Kok said weather conditions were expected to remain bad over Sabah until Mitag spends itself.
