University places for SPM students
KUALA LUMPUR: Students who sat for this year’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exams can now apply for places in the coming public university intake.
The Higher Education Ministry’s Higher Education Department said in a statement that the application process for SPM students interested in joining the 2008/2009 academic session would be conducted fully online and in two phases.
Phase One requires students to fill the online application form, which they can access by using their MyKad number and creating a password at http://www.mohe.gov.my.
This phase, which began on Nov 12, closes on Dec 31.
The ministry said that as of Dec 13, there were 38,353 applicants for Phase One.
In Phase Two, which will open on Feb 4, students have to purchase a unique ID number at RM10.60 at Bank Simpanan Nasional branches to send their online applications, along with their MyKad number and password.
Applicants are only allowed to apply once, and may update their online forms up to three times before the closing date for applications, which is 10 working days after the announcement of the 2007 SPM results.
Queries can be directed to the department’s Student Intake Management Division at 03-8883-5801/2 or e-mail upu@mohe.gov.my.
