IPOH: Nineteen people sustained injuries after an express bus from Alor Star crashed into the back of a latex tanker near Sungkai, some 70km from here.
The bus, ferrying 23 passengers, had been heading south towards Kuala Lumpur on the North-South Expressway when the incident occurred at KM 354.9 at 3.40am Tuesday.
No one died in the incident.
Tapah OCPD Supt Roslan Bek Ahmad said the bus rammed into the tanker and ended up in a ditch on the opposite lane after hitting the guardrails.
“Luckily at the time of the incident, there were no vehicles passing through the north-bound lane,” he said.
Supt Roslan said 13 of the injured were rushed to the Slim River Hospital for treatment while six were sent to the Tapah Hospital for light injuries. Most received outpatient care.
The tanker had been transporting latex from the Thailand-Bukit Kayu Hitam border in Kedah to Kuala Lumpur.
