Another fatal expressway crash
BATU PAHAT: A second fatal accident in a week involving a bus ploughing into cars parked at the emergency lane occurred along the North-South Expressway early yesterday.
Chee Wei Wah, 31, was burnt to death, as he could not escape from his burning vehicle during the 12.50am accident near Ayer Hitam - Yong Peng yesterday.

Except for an unidentified friend who fractured his legs, the others were unhurt as they were outside their vehicles during the accident. Their vehicles were badly damaged.
The injured friend was sent to the Batu Pahat hospital for treatment.
The bus driver and 36 passengers who were on their way to Kuala Lumpur from Singapore escaped unhurt.
State traffic officer Deputy Supt T. Raveendran said that the 32-year-old bus driver had been detained to assist with investigations.
He said police had not ruled out the possibility that the bus driver might have dozed off at the time of the accident.
On Dec 23, The Star reported that two people were killed when an express bus ploughed into them near Seremban.
Car driver Mohd Hanif Mohd Noor, 29, and mechanic Palaneysamy Ratnam, 26, who was there to look at the stalled car, were flung 30m from the car on impact.
Following the incident, Road Safety Department director-general Datuk Suret Singh said the emergency lane was not intended for drivers to stop at or to carry out repairs on stalled vehicles.
He said the right thing to do was to move the car to the road shoulder and ensure the vehicle does not obstruct the emergency lane.
“If there is no road shoulder, the stalled vehicle can be left on the emergency lane but only for a short period pending assistance. A safety triangle must be placed some distance behind the car to warn other motorists.
“Drivers and passengers of the stalled vehicle should stay away from the car. Pick a safe place to wait. Repair work should not be conducted on the emergency lane,” he added.
