Why the ‘no dads’ ruling in Baby Room?

I WAS at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara over the weekend, relaxing with my husband and daughter.

Realising that my daughter needed her diaper changed, we made our way to the wonderfully decorated Baby Room located on the first floor.

Imagine my surprise when the security guard told me that men a.k.a. fathers are not allowed in the Baby Room. Deeply offended, my husband and I made our immediate exit, with our daughter in tow.

Here are my thoughts on the matter:

  • Aren’t fathers parents too? Why then are they not allowed in the Baby Room?

  • Can you imagine what a father would have to do to change his child’s diaper if he were not even allowed into the Baby Room, which is intended for the purpose specifically? How about those single fathers out there?

  • I noticed (but I may be mistaken) that the partitions for the nursing area are a bit low, allowing passers-by to look in.

This may be the reason why men a.k.a fathers are not allowed in the room.

Did the management of The Curve not have the foresight to consider this before they constructed the room? Don’t tell me they are not fathers themselves!

I’m greatly disappointed by this and at the management of The Curve. Just when more men are becoming responsible fathers and getting more involved in the caring of their children, here is one establishment that seems to perpetuate the ideology that child rearing should be the sole responsibility of mothers.

    Come on, we’re modern-thinking people, aren’t we?

I hope the management will do something about it, and soon.

    UNHAPPY MOMMY,

    Kuala Lumpur.
