Muar police urge rubber factories to beef up security

MUAR: Police here want all rubber processing factories to beef up security following the hijacking of three trailer-trucks laden with processed rubbed from a factory near Bakri.

Muar police chief Asst Comm Mohd Nizar Mohd Ali said six men surprised four security guards, tied them up and drove away in the trucks at 1.15am on Monday.

Speaking to reporters here, he said two of the trucks had been found empty – one in Kota Tinggi and the other in Simpang Renggam – while the third had yet to be located.

“The factory was preparing to export several tonnes of Standard Malaysian Rubber (SMR) worth about RM650,000 to South America and Mexico when the trucks were hijacked.

“Looking at the modus operandi, we believe the hijackers may be linked to those who have been hijacking trucks along the North-South Expressway,” he said Tuesday.

Following the incident, police wanted all rubber processing factories here, including one in Grisek, to be on the alert and to tighten security.

ACP Mohd Nizar said police would also send patrol units to check and monitor the factories.

“We will also seek assistance from the Malaysian Rubber Council to help in our investigation, especially on the potential buyers of such material.

“We know that not many companies are involved in processing rubber for export and we hope the council can help us in this matter,” he added.
