PUTRAJAYA: The official logo and slogan for the 50th National Day celebration were unveiled yesterday, along the theme of excellence and national pride.

The winning designer, Nor Azian A. Hasan, 35, won a RM10,000 cash prize for his effort.

The Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry chose Malaysiaku Gemilang as the celebration’s slogan, which is appropriate as gemilang means excellence, said Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.

Nor Azian: Won RM10,000 for his winning logo.
“The Kamus Dewan defines gemilang as enlightened, bright, excellent and in memory of a past era,” Dr Rais said before launching the logo and slogan at the Prime Minister’s Department complex here.

At a press conference later, Dr Rais told reporters that the logo portrayed the unity of the multiracial Bangsa Malaysia and their appreciation and gratitude for living in a country that has known 50 years of independence.

He also announced that the ministry would compose a song on Malaysiaku Gemilang.

Dr Rais said various programmes were being organised in the run-up to the peak of the celebration on Aug 31, aimed at instilling the gemilang concept in the minds of citizens.

“We want Malaysians to be gemilang in the years to come.”
