The Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry chose Malaysiaku Gemilang as the celebrations slogan, which is appropriate as gemilang means excellence, said Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.

At a press conference later, Dr Rais told reporters that the logo portrayed the unity of the multiracial Bangsa Malaysia and their appreciation and gratitude for living in a country that has known 50 years of independence.
He also announced that the ministry would compose a song on Malaysiaku Gemilang.
Dr Rais said various programmes were being organised in the run-up to the peak of the celebration on Aug 31, aimed at instilling the gemilang concept in the minds of citizens.
We want Malaysians to be gemilang in the years to come.
