PKR likes to provoke, says Hisham
BATANG BERJUNTAI: Problems always arise whenever the Barisan Nasional and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) contest in an election, Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussien said.
Referring to the flared tempers outside the community centre here during nomination yesterday morning, he said: “We did not have such problems when we contested against other parties.
“PKR likes to provoke and use scare tactics as well as touch on personal issues when campaigning.”
He said PKR came across as desperados wanting their candidates to win at any cost.
Tension was high among the thousands of party supporters who accompanied their candidates to the nomination centre, leading to stones, bottles and sticks flying across each side.
Hishammuddin said whenever incidents such as this happened, the PKR would allege that the Barisan Youth started the problem.
“They have to ask themselves why when the Barisan faces either PAS, DAP or independent candidates, no such incidents occur,” he said.
“Enough is enough. There is a limit to our patience. If you see their slogans and posters, you will see very personal attacks against our leaders.
“How do you expect us to feel?” Hishammuddin asked.
He added that none of the Barisan campaign slogans or posters touched on PKR leaders personally.
Hishammuddin claimed the situation could have taken a turn for the worse if the Barisan Youth members had not been disciplined and had not controlled themselves.
Umno deputy youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin claimed the fracas was started by opposition supporters.
“They were the ones who started throwing the bottles. They came behind the Barisan supporters and picked up our water bottles and filled them up with stones before throwing them at us,” he said.
