Bloggers form grouping
KUALA LUMPUR: A group of bloggers have formed an alliance in the wake of criticisms of irresponsibility against blogs and websites.
Some 40 bloggers, including several popular writers in cyberspace, met yesterday to discuss the formation of the National Bloggers Alliance.
Ahirudin Attan of Rocky's Bru told mStar that the alliance aimed to protect the rights of bloggers and promote blogging in a responsible manner.
He said the group planned to register the alliance, appoint a committee and impose membership fees.
Deputy Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor told Parliament on Wednesday that the Government was considering registering bloggers to prevent the spread of malicious content on the Internet.
Former MP Datuk Ruhanie Ahmad who was present at the meeting said the Government should not label bloggers as anti-Government because the views aired by them were mostly relevant and should be taken into consideration.
Another blogger, Raja Petra Kamaruddin, said the alliance was crucial in creating awareness about the power of the fast growing Internet media.
