Indon pirates board ship, rob crew

KOTA TINGGI: Six Indonesians armed with parangs (machetes) and pistols sneaked on board a vessel and robbed eight crewmen of their belongings and cash, resulting in some RM25,000 worth of losses.
The ship Mujur Samudra was docking near Pulau Lima here while on its way to Vietnam at 9.45pm on Saturday when eight Indonesians arrived on a speedboat.
Six of the robbers came on board while two stayed behind.
They surprised the eight crewmen and demanded their belongings, but when two of them did not comply, the suspects hit them on their heads with their parangs.
One of the suspects even struggled with a victim, causing him to fall overboard.
Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Osman Mohamad Sebot said the suspects spent about 30 minutes ransacking the ship before escaping with the victims’ mobile phones and cash amounting to RM25,000.
“The victim who fell overboard managed to swim ashore and seek help from some fishermen.
“They reported the incident to the police and two injured victims have been sent to a nearby hospital for treatment,” he said, adding that anyone with information should call the police hotline at 07-2212999 or contact their nearest police station.
