China a land of opportunity, says Najib
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians should not be frightened of China as a force that might destabilise the region, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said.
Instead, he said, China should be looked upon as a land of opportunity for Malaysians to increase bilateral and trade ties with.
“We never thought of China as a threat but as our true friend,” he said at a dinner to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Malaysia-China Friendship Association.
The event organised by the association, was also to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations and Malaysia's 50th anniversary of Independence.
Najib also said that the good ties allowed bilateral trade to grow and said last year the figure was at around US$22bil (RM74.8bil).
