Copa America: Mexico stuns Brazil 2-0 in opener

PUERTO ORDAZ, Venezuela (AP) - With two goals in the first half, Mexico stunned defending champion Brazil 2-0 in Copa America soccer on Wednesday.

Forward Nery Castillo lobbed a pass to himself over the last Brazilian defender and netted Mexico's first goal after 23 minutes. Six minutes later, Brazil goalkeeper Doni watched in disbelief as Ramon Morales bent a free kick over the Brazil defense for the second goal.

Brazil's young and less experienced team dominated second half play as the sturdy Mexico defense began to unwind.

But Mexican 'keeper Guillermo Ochoa continued to shut out the Brazilians with incredible saves, including stopping one blazing shot by Afonso in the 62nd.

Chile came from behind to beat Ecuador 3-2 in the earlier Group B match in Puerto Ordaz.

Lineups Brazil: Doni, Juan, Maicon (Daniel Alves, 78), Gilberto, Alex, Gilberto Silva, Mineiro, Elano (Anderson, 46), Diego (Afonso, 46), Robinho, Vagner Love. Mexico: Guillermo Ochoa, Jonny Magallon, Rafael Marquez, Israel Castro (Jose Castro, 64), Fauto Pinto, Gerardo Torrado, Fernando Arce, Jaime Correa, Ramon Morales (Jaime Lozano, 78), Nery Castillo, Juan Carlos Cacho (Omar Bravo, 68).-AP
