Fill up at petrol station before 10pm
By M. KRISHNAMOORTHY
KUALA LUMPUR: Fill up your tank before 10pm.
The Petrol Dealers Association of Malaysia wants to close petrol stations at 10pm daily, citing escalating costs and security risk as the reasons.
Association president Alang Zari Ishak said about 200 delegates will attend the association's annual general delegates conference today to endorse a resolution to close business earlier.
“We want to close for business at 10pm and reopen at 7am every day,” he added.
Alang Zari, however, said that petrol stations along highways would remain open 24 hours.
“We are doing this so as not to inconvenience travellers and those in the transport industry,” he said.
He said that besides the shorter business hours, the conference would also discuss the enforcement of the self-service rule at all petrol stations throughout the country.
“We also want the 1% commission we are charged by banks on customers using credit cards to pay for petrol to be passed on to the customers.
“The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry has forwarded our request on the credit card commission to the Finance Ministry and Bank Negara,” he added.
Alang Zari also said that the association was compiling a report on its reasons for shorter business hours to be presented to the Government.
