Body-in-fridge murder suspect released (updated)
By ANDREW SAGAYAM
KUALA LUMPUR: The sole suspect in the body-parts-in-fridge murder case was released on police bail.
The 33-year-old Sarawakian woman was released from the Brickfields district police headquarters at 5.20pm today.
She had been in remand since July 31.
City CID chief Senior Asst Comm II Ku Chin Wah said the Deputy Public Prosecutor instructed police to release the woman who had been remanded for 11 days.
When asked if there was lack of evidence against her, he said, "Investigations will continue without the suspect in remand."
However, SAC Ku said in the eyes of the police, the case was solved.
At the Brickfields police headquarters, the suspect was barricaded by her parents, brother and relatives and ushered into a Hyundai Atos driven by her brother.
The woman, who looked calm, refused to answer questions thrown at her by the media.
Her lawyer Mah Weng Kwai said she would have to report to the Brickfields police headquarters on Aug 27 at 9am.
"We will hand over her passport to the police as soon as possible," he said, adding she will assist in investigations.
Last month, the new owner of the luxury condominium unit in Mont Kiara found the body of a man identified as Singaporean Goh Yoke Seng.
He was cut into 11 pieces and stuffed in a refrigerator sealed with masking tape.
