‘Hold forums on social contract’
MUAR: There must be more discussions on the social contract that enabled Malaysians to enjoy 50 years of peaceful and progressive living, said Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Many young Malaysians do not know why such a contract exists or that the Constitution was formulated based on the contract.
There is a need to set up forums, where political leaders can discuss the matter.
We dont want Malaysians to keep questioning about the Malays having certain privileges, the status of the Malay Rulers, Islam or the Malay language, as all these are clearly stated in the Constitution, he told reporters after meeting members of Pagoh Umno, near here, yesterday.
Muhyiddin, who is Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, suggested that such discussions be held first behind closed doors among Barisan Nasional leaders, including from the Youth wings, and inputs be obtained later from the public.
