JPJ officer caught for graft and khalwat
By LOURDES CHARLES
KUALA LUMPUR: It was double trouble for a Road Transport Department (JPJ) state director when he was caught with a female senior government official in a posh hotel room here.
Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) officials, who were closely monitoring the director for allegedly demanding bribes from driving schools, set an ambush on Friday at the hotel where he usually stayed when he came here.
The ACA officers had received a tip-off that the director, who had been stationed at the JPJ headquarters previously, would be making a trip here for another round of collections from driving school operators.
Sources said the director not only demanded bribes from the driving school operators in return for his favours, but also frequented karaoke centres and other entertainment outlets with his bills paid for by the driving school operators.
The ACA officers saw the director walking into the hotel with a woman in the wee hours of Friday, and immediately notified the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council.
At about 2.30am, the religious department officers arrived and accompanied the ACA officers to the hotel room, where the duo were caught.
The ACA officers recovered money believed to be bribes paid by the driving schools to the JPJ director, who is in his 40s.
