Angkasawan to be named soon

KUALA LUMPUR: The angkasawan who will be the first Malaysian to go to space on board the Russian Soyuz Rocket is expected to be announced in the next few days.

Sources said a decision had already been made as to whether it will be Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor or Kapt Dr Faiz Khaleed but the Government was waiting for an opportune moment to make it public.

It was learnt that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will unveil the name of the successful candidate.

More than 11,000 people had applied to be the first Malaysian in space and it has taken over three years to whittle the list down to two.
