Learn to plan finances
By HARIATI AZIZAN
PETALING JAYA: Many of us know that financial planning is important but we do little about it.
According to the Malaysian Financial Planning Council, there is no urgency on the part of most Malaysians to plan their finances.
The council, however, has not given up hope.
It has decided to collaborate with the MCA’s Lifelong Learning Campaign (LLL) to raise public awareness on the importance of financial planning in a series of workshop.
|
Never too early: Many young people feel that financial planning is something they should only worry about at later stage of their lives, according to Chong. |
He said many also believed that financial planning was only for the rich.
“But when they reach middle age, they start complaining they don’t have enough money.
“So, financial planning should start now, today!” said Chong, has been involved in the finance industry for 16 years.
For those looking to get their finances in order, look no further than the coming LLL 101 Financial Planning Workshop to be conducted over two Saturdays beginning Oct 7.
Specially designed for the layman, the workshop will expose participants to essential areas like the fundamental concept of financial planning, cash flow management, debt management, effective retirement planning and Islamic financial planning concept.

He certainly knows his stuff well, holding several other key positions – Training and Educational Board chairman in the National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance and Financial Advisers.
Chong was forced to have an early start in financial planning with his nine siblings.
“I’ve always been guided on money matters,” he quipped.
The workshop is part of the council's continuing efforts to raise public awareness on the topic, following its previous Nationwide Financial Planning Roadshow supported by Bank Negara and the Securities Commission.
The workshop will be held at the South City Lifelong Learning Centre at South City Plaza in Seri Kembangan.
The fee is RM70 per day including materials and refreshment. For enquiries, call 03-2161 8044 or email info@lll.net.my.
