Indonesian woman falls to her death
By STEVEN DANIEL
MALACCA: An Indonesian woman, believed to be an illegal maid, fell to her death while trying to evade religious authorities at an apartment block in Taman Siantan, Tengkera.
The woman, identified only as Sukasih, 31, tried to escape by climbing over the railing of the balcony of a fourth-floor unit to get to a lower unit when she slipped and fell.
It is believed that Sukasih, from Jawa Timur, who was with her Indonesian husband in the apartment, did not have any valid documents, and feared arrest when state Islamic religious department officers and the police came at 2am on Thursday.
Upon hearing a thud, the religious officers and police hurried down to find Sukasih sprawled on the ground.
They rushed her to Malacca Hospital but the woman died two hours later.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Johari Yahya said the religious officers had lodged a report on the incident.
We believe there was no criminal intent. She panicked because she did not have any valid documents and tried to run away, ACP Johari said.
It is learnt that Sukasihs brother took her body back to Indonesia on Friday night.
