‘We’ll push for childcare centres’
KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita MCA will push for the setting up of more childcare centres in view of the rising number of abduction, abuse and murder involving children.
The movement's chief, Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen, said such centres were important especially for single mothers who had to struggle between work and domestic commitments.
There should be more of these centres, she said, citing a RM10mil grant allocated by the Government under the Budget 2008 for non-government organisations to develop more childcare centres.
We need to push strongly for this, said Dr Ng who is also Deputy Finance Minister when commenting on the murder of eight-year-old Nurin Jazlin Jazimin.
The nation shares and understands the feelings of the parents.
Nurins case is a warning sign to us that we need to really look after our childrens safety, she said after flagging off the Beliawanis MCA Treasure Hunt at Wisma MCA yesterday.
She said the benefit of childcare centres was that trained and qualified personnel would look after children.
Dr Ng also said that parenting today was not just about taking care of our children physically and emotionally but to teach them the skills of survival.
