Iraqi court upholds death sentence against "Chemical Ali"

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - An Iraqi appeals court on Tuesday upheld the death sentence against Saddam Hussein's cousin, widely known as "Chemical Ali" for masterminding a genocidal campaign against Iraq's Kurds in the 1980s.

The nine-member panel said the death sentence against Ali Hassan al-Majeed would be carried out within the next 30 days. It also upheld the death sentences against Sultan Hashim, Saddam's former defence minister and Hussein Rashid, the former deputy commander of operations for the Iraqi military, chief prosecutor Munkith al-Fatlawi told Reuters.
