Plenty of eye-catching booths at education fair

KUALA LUMPUR: Creativity is the name of the game when it comes to designing and setting up booths at the Star Education Fair 2008.

With more than 470 booths taken up for the event, many of the 170-plus exhibitors have certainly pulled out all stops to ensure their displays are not only informative but also attention-grabbing.

Visitors to the fair, which opens today at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, can expect striking billboards, eye-catching structures and other innovative elements.

KDU College has brought in a life-size figure of “Remy”, the rat with aspirations to become a chef at a gourmet restaurant from the animated movie Ratatouille, which is bound to be a crowd-puller.

The college’s local marketing and development senior executive Andrew Leong said the charming figure was a project by the students.

“The Culinary Arts programme is very popular at our college, so we are hoping to use Ratatouille as an attraction,” he added.

Some other institutions have adopted a different approach. HELP University College, for instance, has kept its booths simple and open, with ample sitting room for students and their parents.

“We want our visitors to feel comfortable,” said the institution’s senior manager (customer marketing department) Yap Chen Leong.

The fair will also feature educational and career talks to help students make up their minds on their options.

Representatives from Star-Jobs Online, The Star’s recruitment portal, will also be present to give advice on the process of applying for jobs via the portal.

In addition, students will be able to get advice on how to apply for scholarships and loans from the Star Education Fund and National Higher Education Fund Corporation.

Visitors can also participate in fun contests and win attractive prizes.

The education fair is on today and tomorrow from 11am to 7pm. Admission is free.
