Overwhelming response to career talk for students
KUALA LUMPUR: Although it was the first career talk for the day, more than 1,500 people turned up for the Options after SPM talk.
About 200 people had to sit on the floor while listening to the first speaker, Studylink Sdn Bhd general manager Jerry Tan, who advised students to choose the right pre-university course.

“You should have an idea of what you want to do in the future before deciding on a pre-university course,” he said.
Tan warned that different countries have different requirements for various courses and students need to know this before applying.
“Chemistry, for example, is the only prerequisite to studying medicine in Australia, while chemistry, biology and physics are required in India,” he said.
Dr Abdul Rahim Ahmad from the Higher Education Ministry’s department of polytechnic and community college education said community colleges were for students who want hands-on experience.
Dr Abdul Rahim highlighted the ministry’s concept of work-based learning, whereby students undergo industrial training for a six-month semester.
“This boosts their employability,” he added.
Star-Jobs senior executive Joyce Lee advised students to know their likes and dislikes to find the job that fits their personality.
“People who love analysis and research will do well in investigative work,” she said.
Among those who attended the talk was student Ding Yee Sing, from Kuala Lumpur.
“I learned a lot today and will now take more time to consider my pathway,” she said.
Noor Shaffeena, 17, was happy to learn more about community colleges.
“I want to learn IT or baking and I’m impressed with the industrial linkage at community colleges,” she said.
