ACA quizzes Aziz, five others

PUTRAJAYA: Veteran comedian and actor Datuk Aziz Sattar was among six former committee members of Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia (Karyawan) called by the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) yesterday to have their statements recorded following allegations of misuse of funds by the organisation.

They were interviewed for more than two hours, believed over alleged reports of strife within the organisation.

When met later, Aziz said ACA officers wanted to know the reasons why the committee members had resigned.

He said the interview was not concerning the police report he had lodged last week, adding he was confident that whatever “problems and crises” that had arisen within Karyawan would be resolved with the ACA’s involvement.

“I cannot comment much about the matter but suffice to say that further action will be taken by the authorities,” he told reporters yesterday.

Last week, the 81-year-old actor lodged a police report alleging misuse of funds by Karyawan, claiming that the top management, without the endorsement of other committee members, had used an undisclosed sum of money.

Aziz resigned as a Karyawan committee member on Jan 2.

When asked to comment on the organisation’s call for him to look into its accounts, Aziz said it was unnecessary for him to do so now that he was no longer a member.

“Why only invite me to do so after I have resigned? Financial reports should be tabled during meetings to ensure transparency, but that was not done,” he said.
