Family members affected by clemency granted to death row prisoner

PETALING JAYA: Just when Peter Chan Kok Heng managed to put the murder of his wife Linda Lee Good Yew behind him, the episode has come back to haunt him and his two children.

Chan was commenting on the clemency granted last week to death row prisoner Kenneth Lee Fook Mun @ Omar Iskandar Lee Abdullah by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Kenneth, 59, was on June 30, 2003 found guilty of culpable homicide by the Kuala Lumpur High Court for the death of Good Yew on Aug 22, 2000 and was jailed eight years.
On appeal by the prosecution, the Court of Appeal on March 26, 2005, allowed the application and imposed the death sentence on Kenneth, a former property developer who is a grandson of former Finance Minister Tun H.S. Lee.
On June 10, 2006, Kenneth's death sentence was affirmed by the Federal Court with Chief Justice Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim and Federal Court judges Pajan Singh Gill and Richard Malanjum unanimously dismissing Kenneth's appeal.

Kenneth had been awaiting the outcome of his appeal to the Pardons Board since 2006.
Chan, 55, said one of his two daughters who had returned from overseas to celebrate Chinese New Year was badly affected by the news.
“A joyful mood has turned sour. We are again reminded of Linda's death and the trauma that we have endured,'' he added.
