Hotel – centre of attraction

BATU PAHAT: The hotel where Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and a friend were believed to have been secretly video taped having sex has become the centre of attention as reporters try to get comments from the management.

The plush hotel, which is popular among VIPs who come to Batu Pahat, was empty and quiet when the reporters turned up yesterday.

Except for three or four front-desk employees and several diners at the hotel’s restaurant, the lobby with giant pillars and beautiful staircases, was empty.

Reporters, who had hoped the management would hold a press conference, waited from about 11am.

They sought the employees' help to talk to public relations officer. Several tried calling the management but were told all managers were at a meeting.

A Chinese daily reporter said he tried to book the room the video was alleged shot but was told a guest had taken the room for one week.

By 2.30pm more reporters, including those from the Malay dailies, began converging at the hotel.

At 3.30pm the hotel's sales and marketing assistant turned up to talk to reporters.

The man said he did not want to deny or confirm anything about the video.

A Malay daily reporter tried to call the owner of the hotel but was told the man was ill.

The reporters left after a while.
