Good potential as animation hub
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia can be one of Asia’s biggest animation hubs in the future – that is the firm belief of web designer Josh Lim.
And he will be conveying this message at the Star Education Fair 2008 on Jan 12, when he speaks on animation graphics during the education and career talk on “Exploring Options in the ICT World”.

Industry insight: Web designer Josh Lim will speak on animation graphics during the education and career talk on “Exploring Options in the ICT World” at the Star Education Fair in Kuala Lumpur on Jan 12. |
“Malaysia is a good outsourcing destination as we have a favourable exchange rate and there is significant talent in the country.”
However, Lim said most parents had doubts about the viability of a career in this industry.
“The common misconception is that one cannot make money,” he said.
Joining Lim will be Hilmy Abdul Rahim, a producer for GameBrains Sdn Bhd, and Maxis senior manager (product development and infotainment) Heather Wee Hui Ting, who will speak on games development and mobile phone applications respectively.
“Games development is a craft based on passion and there is a lot of grassroots-level growth in this field as more colleges are offering courses,” said Hilmy.
Multimedia Development Corp vice-president (capacity development division) Ng Wan Peng will give the overview.
The fair, to be held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Jan 12 and 13 from 11am to 7pm, will have more than 160 exhibitors and 470 booths. Admission is free.
Talks on the differences between studying and working, SPM Physics and Additional Mathematics, and engineering will also be held on Jan 12.
On the next day, the sessions will cover allied health sciences, medicine and dentistry, options after SPM and funding higher education.
