Pahang Customs collects more taxes
KUANTAN: Pahang Customs Department collected RM438mil in revenue this year up to middle of this month, an improvement compared with the RM380mil collected during the corresponding period last year.
Its director Ahmad Samawe Hassan said this was a 15.28% increase and the department was confident of surpassing this year’s target of RM500mil. He added that more than 75% of the collection was from domestic taxes.
“A huge sum comes from levies collected from palm oil shareholders having over 40ha of land. Within two months we managed to get RM13mil,” Ahmad Asmawe said on Thursday.
On service charge imposed by certain restaurants, Ahmad Asmawe said the department would only impose service tax for non-hotel restaurants with annual gross income of more than RM3mil.
“Charges other than service tax do not fall under our jurisdiction,” he said, adding that the public should know the difference between service tax and service charge.
On fireworks smuggling, Ahmad Asmawe said it was expected to continue until Chinese New Year next year. He urged the public to provide information on smuggling activities by calling 09-516 3515 / 1516 (Kuantan), 09-220 1212 (Bentong) or 09-296 4263 (Temerloh).
