Hisham slams Zaid for criticising racial concept
SERDANG: Outgoing Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein has criticised Datuk Zaid Ibrahim for making “irresponsible remarks” on ketuanan Melayu (Malay supremacy).
“His statements are irresponsible, uncalled for and they contradict his position when he was in the Government,” said Hishammuddin yesterday.
Several Umno leaders had censured Zaid for his recent statements that the Malay supremacy concept had failed, that it distracted from the real issues confronting the country and that there should be a fresh perspective based on agreements made in good faith with all the communities.
Hishammuddin said he did not know what were Zaid’s motives.
“Perhaps he is trying to get himself expelled or punished, but I think the people can tell which leaders are genuinely sincere and consistent in their actions,” said Hishammuddin.
“If you bad-mouth the party while you’re still in it, your stand is inconsistent with what you did before, and you’re bad-mouthing the leadership that put you in the Government. That does not make a leader.”
