Introduce laws to end shame of money politics
MONEY politics is becoming increasingly rampant and it looks like we are stuck with it.
People are buying votes with money, real hard cash. Besides offering cash, they are also throwing freebies such as free five-star hotel rooms, meals, handphones, even credit cards and all sorts of gifts.
One way to eradicate money politics is to cut every source of fringe benefit that goes with any party office.
Let us introduce laws to prohibit any party official at whatever level from applying or making recommendations, or participating even by the most remote way for any Government projects, permits, contracts, rewards of any kind.
This is nothing new really. Today, civil servants, members of the Police or the Armed Forces are not allowed to be in business, to apply for any government licence or permit.
We can extend similar laws to cover all those holding any party post at any level. The law shall apply up to five years after he has retired from the post.
An applicant for any form of government service must make a statutory declaration that he is not holding any party post. If he has a party post, he is automatically disqualified.
If we have this law, then only the genuine, sincere, earnest and honest person will fight for party posts.
