Blind man may see again
By RASLAN BAHAROM
AFTER 10 years of literally being in the dark, former security guard Mat Hassan Tanjong, 75, from Kampung Selamat in Bukit Merah will finally be able to realise his wish to see his 10 children again.
Mat Hassan, whose eyesight failed after suffering from bilateral severe ocular surface eye disease 20 years ago, will be able to undergo an eye operation to regain his eyesight after receiving RM20,000 from Emkay Foundation chairman and owner of Bukit Merah Laketown Resort Tan Sri Mustapha Kamal Abu Bakar recently.
Expressing his gratitude to Mustapha Kamal, Mat Hassan said he was relieved after being told that the vision in his left eye could be restored.
Emkay Foundation spokesman Yusof Abu Othman said the surgery would be carried out pending the arrival of the blotissue from the United States.
He also said the company had donated RM18.6mil to develop sports, health, education and religious facilities, preserve the environment and also to rehabilitate endangered species such as the orang utan and kelah fish.
He was speaking to reporters during a gotong royong to spruce up a mosque, community hall and SK Kampung Selamat in Bukit Merah near Taiping.
A total of 250 Kampung Selamat residents, staff of Bukit Merah Laketown Resort, Segi Objektif Sdn Bhd and JFF Associate and nursing students from the Bukit Merah Laketown Allied Health Science Institute took part in the gotong-royong.
