By M. SIVANANTHA SHARMA

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A snatch-theft victim was run over by a three-tonne truck when she lost her balance and fell onto the road after a motorcycle pillion rider grabbed her handbag.

Lim See Nya, 58, was walking back to her car with several relatives after purchasing groceries from a supermarket when a motorcycle came from behind.

Lim, from Lunas, Kedah, fell and was hit by the truck at about 11.30am yesterday on Jalan Cheok Sah.

Tragic end: A family member crying at the scene as Lim’s remains, in a body bag, lies on Jalan Cheok Sah in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Wednesday.

She died on the spot of serious head injuries.

Central Seberang Prai acting OCPD Supt Mohan Singh said yesterday police had classified the case as culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

He said a task force had been set up to look for the culprits, both of whom had worn full-face helmets.

He urged witnesses to call Insp Azwan Kamaruddin at 012-2651045 or the nearest police station.

In an unrelated case, a 13-year-old student died on the spot while his 21-year-old brother fractured a leg after their motorcycle and a car collided at the 138th kilometre of the North-South Expressway on Tuesday night.

Faris Muhammad Yunus, who was riding pillion, died from serious head injuries. His brother Fauzi was admitted to the Seberang Jaya Hospital.

Their father, Muhammad Yunus Maullabax, 48, said the incident occurred at about 8pm when both his sons were on their way to visit relatives in Jelutong.
