Woman denies owning weblog insulting Prophet
KEMAMAN: The woman whose photograph and identity had been used in a blog containing insults against Prophet Muhammad has denied owning the internet domain, said Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
He said the woman, in her 20s, met him two weeks ago to ask RTM to help clear her name.
“She sought help from RTM to spread the matter because the weblog which also contains Deepavali messages insulting the Hindus, was not hers and has tarnished her reputation and the company she works for.
“I have told RTM to broadcast the story to remind the public who received greeting cards from the weblog to be careful and to lodge a police report,” he told reporters at the launch of “Nur Sejahtera” at the Kemaman parliamentary constituency yesterday.
Ahmad Shabery said the woman, an accountant with an automotive giant in the Klang Valley, had admitted that she did not know the motive of the people behind the weblog.
“She came to know the existence of the weblog several months ago and has lodged reports with the police and the multimedia commission to trace those responsible,” he said, adding that the relevant authorities should carry out investigations to avoid any untoward incident and to restore the woman’s reputation.
Ahmad Shabery said he was told that the weblog server was based overseas and it was difficult for the commission to trace the culprit.
He was sure that the weblog was deliberately created by people with malicious intent against the woman and her employer.
The woman was innocent and had been victimised, he said, adding that she was mentally and physically stressed. — Bernama
