Sydney Olympic Venue renamed Rosewall Arena
SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - The main tennis stadium at Sydney's Olympic Park has been named after Australian tennis great Ken Rosewall.
The 10,000-seat center court, venue for the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the annual Sydney International, was Tuesday renamed Ken Rosewall Arena in honor of the eight-time Grand Slam singles champion.
"It truly is an honor to have my name aligned to this first-class tennis facility,'' said Rosewall, who had a hit in the stadium to commemorate the ceremony.
Rosewall, 74 and a grandfather of five who lives in northern Sydney, won four Australian Open titles spanning the pre- and post-Open era, two French Open titles and two U.S. Opens in 30 years of international competition.
He reached Wimbledon finals four times - in 1954, '56, '70 and '74.
