Hamidon elected to Unicef board
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Datuk Hamidon Ali has been elected by the Unicef executive board as one of its four vice-presidents.
A statement from Unicef said Hamidon’s appointment was decided during its first regular session at the UN headquarters in New York recently.
Joining Hamidon as vice president for 2008 are Ami Diallo (First Counsellor for the Permanent Mission of Mali to the UN), Jorge Skinner-Klee (Guatemala’s Permanent Representative to the UN) and Mihnea Motoc (Romania’s Permanent Representative to the UN).
Unicef Malaysia representative Youssouf Mohammed Oomar said in the statement that the Executive Board played a critical role in ensuring the activities and operational strategies of the agency were consistent.
