HONG Kong actor and singer Edison Chen has apologised over images of him partially nude with several starlets which were found in the Internet.

The 1 min 28 second-long apology that was recorded on video was reported by all Chinese dailies – Sin Chew Daily, China Press and Nanyang Siang Pau yesterday.

The apology signalled that Chen, who had been missing since the photos involving six female artistes were widely circulated in the Internet since the end of last month, admitted that he had taken those photos.

Chen provided the media with the video statement through his lawyers.

In his apology, he also urged those who had downloaded the photos to delete them and not forward them to anyone so as to protect the victims.

“Many have been affected by the incident which has caused pain, hurt and frustration,” he said in the statement.

Chen urged Internet users to help the victims by not making matters worse.

Some 1,300 photos were leaked into the Internet.

Police confirmed that the leak occurred when someone copied the pictures from Chen's laptop computer when he sent it for servicing at a computer shop.

Police also arrested eight people in connection with the case.

Customs department offer reward on ban firecrackers

Sin Chew Daily reported that the Customs department would reward any informer between 8% and 10% of the value of firecrackers seized by the department.

Director-general Datuk Seri Abd Rahman Abd Hamid urged people to tip off the department’s enforcement unit when people played with firecrackers during Chinese New Year.

He said the identity of the informers would be kept confidential.

Abd Rahman said only “Happy Boom” and “PopPop” firecrackers were allowed while the rest were banned.

He said the department would continue to distribute pamphlets to remind people to refrain from playing with banned firecrackers.
