Let us all settle down

THE people have made their choice so let us all settle down to make our country as vibrant as ever.

To those who have won start your work now and make sure promises made during the campaign are fulfilled.

There is no time for you to sit and ponder on your victories. The minute you won you started working.

Any delay will definitely bring negative reactions from the people. Remember what Lim Kit Siang said’ “If the people can bring the BN down they can also bring us down”. That is the naked truth.

If you think you can just sit and hope things will change for the better then you had better think twice. No magic wand can satisfy the wants of the people.

For the losers, stop the bickering, finger pointing and backstabbing. Those who have enjoyed the soft cushion seats for the last 50 years will now have to endure the hard concrete they will have to sit on now.

They will have to do a lot of soul searching and look at the mistakes they made. Hopefully they will learn from them.

The tide of change has come especially to Selangor, Perak, Penang and Kedah. This is a reality. I am prepared to accept changes for the better, of course.

And changes for the better will always be good for all as long as our rights and liberties are not encroached or curtailed.

I believe the people are fed up with all the mega developments and the billions spent on only certain sections of the population whereas others are totally ignored.

People are not interested in the tallest buildings, the biggest airports, the longest roads and rail tracks when a vast section of the people are jobless and living from hand-to-mouth.

What they want are just jobs and enough money to buy food to feed their families. These are most essential to them and must be within their means. There is no point in providing all the basic needs of the people when only a small section of the population can afford it.

These are the realities of things now and they have not been properly addressedStop all the mega projects and go down to the basics.

Address the needs of the people first and then think of other things.

My message to all Malaysians regardless of race, religion or culture you belong to is to unite and make Malaysia a great country that it should be.

MOHD GHAZALI OSMAN,
Ipoh, Perak.
