New ministers: PM’s reminder a timely one
KUALA LUMPUR: New Cabinet ministers welcomed the Prime Ministers reminder that they behave and be people-oriented so that they do not forget their roots.
Entrepreneur and Co-operative Development Minister Datuk Noh Omar said they were reminded to go down to meet the people because they (the ministers) were once the rakyat before becoming the wakil rakyat (representatives).
We were reminded not to be arrogant and be pre-occupied with having flashy cars and huge mansions.
This reminder gives a deep meaning to new ministers like me who have been given the trust to ensure that government policies and allocations are well spent to benefit the people, he said after attending the Maulidur Rasul celebration at Stadium Putra in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
On Wednesday, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi reminded his ministers to stay away from corruption, serve with integrity and dignity, go to the ground often and organise frequent meet-the-grassroots sessions.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the reminder was most appropriate because the people would observe what they do as leaders of the country.
This is the best advice ever given by the Prime Minister, he added.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said Abdullah had given the same advice before but this time it was most appropriate.
He said the ministers would have to take the advice more seriously in view of Barisan Nasionals setback in the general election.
Rural and Regional Development Minister Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib hoped all parties would play their role in providing service to the country.
Its a national service and we must all be willing to work hard, he added.
