Family disputes dead girl’s post-mortem report
SEREMBAN: The siblings of an 18-year-old girl who died in her sleep at her house in Taman Chempaka on Friday are disputing the post-mortem report stating the cause of death as lung inflammation and a heart-related problem.
“My sister was a healthy girl. I hope the authorities would correctly establish her cause of death because it does not make sense,” said Kanagaram, 36, the brother of R. Balammah, yesterday.

Balammah began complaining of severe chest pains after she returned from national service training in Malacca on March 11, he said.
Balammah, a former student at SM Dato’ Shamsudin Nain and the youngest of four orphaned siblings, had told him that the pains started the day she began shooting lessons.
“She said whenever she fired a shot, the impact caused her chest pains. We suspect that she must have suffered internal injuries that eventually caused her death,” he said.
Fellow trainees at the camp in Ayer Keroh who attended her funeral yesterday verified her story, Kanagaram said.
“I was told that she was referred to a doctor at the camp but he just gave her two days of light duty leave. She should have had her x-ray taken,” he said.
Senawang assemblyman P. Gunasekaren, who was present, said the family could take legal action against the authorities if Balammah’s death was due to negligence.
Former Temiang assemblyman Datuk Lee Yuen Fong, who was also present, said he was asked by the National Service Council chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye to attend the funeral.
“All I can say is that the shooting training had nothing to do with her death,” he said.
