Policemen get new look
By KULDEEP S. JESSY
KUALA LUMPUR: The police will wear a new operational uniform incorporating communications devices, handcuffs, baton and pepper spray when on operations and on crime prevention rounds.
“This uniform will enable them to move faster as they do not have to put on the metal badges and other gadgets anymore,” Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said at the 201st Police Day celebration at the police Training Centre here.

A different approach: A stylish badge bearing the words Integriti Amalan Kita (Integrity is our practice) has replaced the Saya Anti-Rasuah (I am anti-graft) button. |
Present were Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and new Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar and his two deputies – Datuk Chor Chee Heong and Senator Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh.
Introducing the uniform yesterday Musa said all personnel with the exception of traffic policemen would wear the new uniform.
During the celebration, seven civilians received the Friends of the Police award from the Prime Minister for their contribution to enhancing the professionalism and integrity of the force.
Among them was Star Publications (Malaysia) Bhd group chief editor Datuk Wong Chun Wai.
Wong was presented the award for his concern in wanting to improve the image of the police force via his “On the Beat” column that appears every Sunday.
His citation read: “The police force recognises your contribution and generosity in actively being involved in crime prevention campaigns organised by your esteemed organisation and also for sponsoring crime prevention pamphlets as well as other materials to the police force.
“You have also taken a personal interest in helping the Johor, Penang and Kuala Lumpur police in their 'Safe Home' campaign during festive seasons.”
